Excerpt from The Two Rivers Story 1878-1978 Centennial Edition
Pawlitzke, M., Anderson, H.J. (1978). The Two Rivers Story 1878-1978. pg. 10. Brown County Publishing Co.
In the beginning…It was July 9, 1936 and the temperature was 104 degrees in most places, but only 82 degrees in the Cool City. At School and 14th Streets where WPA crews were at work, a worker turned over a spadeful of dirt and uncovered snow, which had been preserved from the previous winter, buried in the ground. The story hit the national wire service during that hot spell and the Two Rivers Snow Festival was born. Manitowoc Mayor Arthur Schuetze scoffed at the entire affair and called it nothing but a publicity stunt. City Manager C.J. Donnelly made a believer out of the Mayor when he went to Manitowoc and dumped a bucket of snow on his city hall desk.

Now in its 49th season, the Two Rivers annual SnowFest kicks-off Friday, July 26, 2024, at 5:00 pm, at Neshotah Park. Saturday, July 27, at 11:00 am, the SnowFest parade rolls down Columbus and leads spectators to the festival grounds. Sunday, July 28, festivities begin with the Cornhole Tournament.
